THE STRAY DOG by Marc Simont and THE BOY WHO WOULDN’T GO TO SLEEP by Helen Cooper

There have been so many great book reviews of late on the book blogs I follow that I feel like I am drowning in book recommendations! I will link to them over the next few days.

In the meantime, a few nights ago the girls let me pick out the bedtime books. I picked out two of my favorites and we had a great read. Here are the two books – oldies but goodies:

Stray The Stray Dog by Marc Simont. This very sweet book is about a family who encounters a stray dog at a park, goes home without him, but then returns to the park a week later and decides to take him home. The drawings are simple but very sweet (my favorite one – the little boy takes his belt off to give it to the dog as a collar, and on the next page he is shown trying to hold his loose shorts up). This is a shortie but a goodie.

Sleep The Boy Who Wouldn't Go To Sleep, by Helen Cooper. A little boy tells his mother that he doesn't want to go to bed. Instead, he drives off in his little car and encounters a tiger, a bunch of soldiers, a train carrying toys, and a traveling band, all of whom tell him that they are too tired to play with him. Eventually, he returns to his room and finally falls asleep, surrounded by toy-size versions of the very creatures and items he encountered on his pre-sleep adventure. The pictures are very clever and my daughters have fun finding all the things in his bedroom that he encountered along his trip.

Back to grown-up books next time!
