I just finished Between Here and April, by Deborah Copaken Kogan, but I am going to wait to post my review until February 1, the date of the next EDIWTB online book club. So check back here on the 1st for my review if this book interests you.
Meanwhile…
As a diehard 80s fan… I am very excited to learn of this book: You Couldn't Ignore Me If you Tried: The Brat Pack, John Hughes, and Their Impact on a Generation, by Susannah Gora. It comes out on February 9th. I can't find any reviews of this online yet – I guess it's too soon. I am going to try to get my hands on a review copy, if I can – I am very excited to read it, especially the interviews with the actors who played those seminal roles.
Next book is either going to be The Help or Baker Towers, by Jennifer Haigh. I am leaning toward Baker Towers, but plan to read them both in the next month.
I read and reviewed Between Here and April in the fall of 2008. I’ll be interested in your take on it.
And I’d vote for Baker Towers for the next book-club pick. My IRL book club liked it a lot. Besides, everyone’s already reading The Help anyway :-).
Oh, I am DEFINITELY going to be looking for “You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried.” Absolutely, this would be right up my child-of-the-80s alley.
Thanks for letting us know about this book! I am definitely an 80’s fan. John Hughes actually went to my high school and many of his movies like Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club have many scenes that were filmed there. I was so sad when I heard that he had died. These movies definitely had a big impact on my generation!
I just put Between Here and April on my TBR list. I’ll be interested to see what you thought!
I cannot wait for this one. John Hughes’ movies completely shaped my teen years. This would be such a great gift for anyone who lived through the 80s.
