BBAW Post #3: Reading Meme

BBAW2 This is BBAW theme post #3 – a reading meme. Hmmm… I get to answer a bunch of questions about me and my reading habits? Ok, twist my arm. And then visit BBAW to find out how your other favorite book bloggers answered the same questions.

Here goes:

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? No, I don't usually snack when I am reading. Too distracting.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? I sometimes note particular passages that I want to quote in my review, or that are illustrative of a larger point I want to make. Otherwise, no, I left the note-taking and highlighting behind when I left law school.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open? Sadly, I often fall asleep reading, and wake up to a book open flat with the spine up and pages down. (The horror!) When I don't fall asleep reading, I dog-ear or use the book jacket. Why don't I just use one of the 300 purple EDIWTB bookmarks I have sitting in a box at home? I don't know. (Do you want one? Shoot me an email.)

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both? Almost always fiction, though I've read some great memoirs this year. (Accidentally on Purpose, Perfection, and Identical Strangers).

Hard copy or audiobooks? I've never listened to an audiobook.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? Put it down anywhere. I also fall asleep reading a lot, and it never seems to be at chapter breaks.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Yes, usually on my blackberry.

What are you currently reading? Katherine Center's Everyone Is Beautiful.

What is the last book you bought? I rarely buy books anymore, thanks to review copies. I think the last one I bought and read was The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller.

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time? I'm a one-book woman.

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?  I wish I had time to read all day. Sadly, it tends to be right before bed, in bed. But I can read anywhere, anytime. My biggest nightmare is being stuck somewhere – waiting in line, etc. – and not having my book with me.

Do you prefer series books or stand-alone books? Stand-alone.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?Jennifer Haigh! I could be her publicist.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?) Since my books are almost all fiction, they are simply organized alphabetically by author's last name. When I am about to finish a book, I love checking out where its permanent shelf spot is going to be.

Tomorrow – enough about me, let's talk about books.
